Alaric has been sarcastic and bitter since the whole Isobel thing. It's his protective wall. Since learning the truth, however, he has definitely become warmer to everyone, namely Damon Salvatore.
He is still bitter and has a hatred for vampires, but most of the ones in Mystic Falls are on his good list. He drinks a lot, mostly with Damon, and likes to be helpful in their battles. He hates being left out of the loop on things, especially when Elena or Jeremy is in danger (which is basically all the time, right?)

history: Alaric was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts. Graduating at the top of his class in HS and attending Duke University, Alaric majored in History. His freshman year of college, he was in a car accident with his parents. He lost almost a full year of school grieving. He then met and married Isobel Flemming, a parapsychologist obsessed with vampires, who basically ripped his heart out by faking her own death and leaving him to live her life as a vampire. Alaric then looked into her research, learning of all the supernatural secrets Mystic Falls held. He became a hunter, vowing to kill the vampire that killed his beloved. He's designed many weapons, like Vervaine grenades, to assist him in his new job.
He recognized Damon was the one he thought killed Isobel and discovered the truth. He turned her. Ironically, through digging up Isobels history, Alaric became very close with Damon, best friends, in fact. He also got involved with Elenas aunt and guardian, Jenna. Being roped into the crazy life of his technically-speaking step-daughter, he has set aside his passion of hunting and is instead making friends and family out of the vampires in Mystic Falls.
