Method of death: Incapacitated by the Gilbert device, he was trapped in a burning basement with the town's vampires. While trying to get away from Damon, his neck was snapped by another vampire.
Even at the end, the clueless Mayor had no idea about the Lockwood curse ("I'm a vampire. What is your excuse?" Damon asked him). It was a well-kept family secret that someone in a previous generation had made the decision was better off not knowing. So whatever patriarch figure in the Lockwood bloodline made that decision, it probably was a pretty smart decision, except for the fact that violence and death returned to Mystic Falls.
A memorial service for the former mayor will be held on Monday for the former mayor at the Lockwood Estate and the town is welcome to come and pay their respects.
(In other words, this is a mass rp that ties into a sub-plot and if you want character involvement, I suggest you make an appearance. There won't be an established post order as that tends to disrupt creative flow. Let the chaos ensue...)
