Brennan glanced around at the library. It was his first day on the job and so far, it had been pretty uneventful. Which was nice. Even though he was new and it was first day working here, he had learned his way around fairly quickly and was able to help the few people that had come in. And that was all that mattered, doing his job to to the best of his abilities. And he was damn good at his job if he did say so himself. Okay, so he was saying so himself. But that was okay. As he had previously stated, it was only his first day here, so people didn't know yet how seriously he took his job. But they'd learn. And at least he didn't have to dress up all that much. A clean t-shirt and jeans was good enough for this place and that's what he was wearing: a charcoal gray v-neck shirt, dark blue jeans, and black tennis shoes.
He let out a sigh and looked around. There wasn't anyone here at the moment and he had to admit, he was bored out of his skull. Oh, don't get him wrong, he was glad that he had found a job so quickly, but he preferred to be useful and without anyone looking for anything, he was feeling anything but useful. Well, might as well grab something to read, he thought to himself. He had brought a book for just this occasion. With that, he reached into his bag and pulled out a semi-thick book which was a Jack London double feature consisting of Call Of The Wild and White Fang. Even though he had read the stories many times, they were his favorite and he could never get enough of them. He then opened up the book to the first page and began reading, once in a while glancing up just in case someone came walking through the front door. Even though he was relaxing for a bit, he didn't want to be caught off guard if someone came in.

Her phone was buzzing off the hook and she couldn't catch a break. She was exhausted and mentally drained. She had been so busy lately. Her modeling career was taking off with a boom, but she was careful about how big it got. People were already recognizing her in a lot of places and she didn't know how much longer she could keep it a secret from her family. She figured she'd never tell them, but she also never thought she'd get this big of a response from it. Her brother has been the one keeping her sane during all of it. He knows her secret and is extremely proud of her, but also worried for her and all the creeps that come along with the job and also about their parents finding out. They came from old school London. Doing any kind of modeling was frowned upon big time. But Ali had always had a blast doing it. She got to travel to the most gorgeous places and her life felt like one huge vacation, except on days like this. Day's like this was her manager going over her schedule for the next upcoming months and everyone talking to her, talking over each other, and Ali just sitting there, sipping her green tea. Alessandra walked to Starbucks after one meeting had been released. She got another hot green tea and saw a Library next to it. Just what she needed. A calm, relaxing, QUIET place she could escape to. Ali loved reading. She looked nothing like a nerd, but she loved reading books, and reading about history and figuring things out for herself. She was really smart and also didn't look like it. She actually had her doctorate from Westminister University in London. She moved here to be a physical therapist for athletes but got caught up in modeling and got busy with that. Ali opened the door to the library and walked in, not hearing a peep. She closed her eyes for a moment and just enjoyed the quiet. She looked around and walked in further heading to the history section. History fascinated her. She loved reading about what went on in the older days. She walked in hearing only her heels hit the floor. She was a little over dressed but she had to dress up for her meetings. Ali always dressed up anyways. She held herself to a certain level because of what she came from in London and their mother taught them they were not allowed to step out of the house looking bad. they always fixed themselves up. She wore THIS BLUE DRESS as she sipped her tea and looked through a book.

Brennan had only made it a little into Call Of The Wild when he heard the entrance to the library opening and looked up to see a woman with short blonde hair wearing an extremely short light blue dress that accentuated her toned legs as well as wearing high heels. Damn, she's hot, he thought to himself. Then he gave himself a mental shake. What was he thinking? He wasn't here to meet girls. He had a job to do. And he was going to make sure that he stayed focused on that. Making a quick decision, he crinkled the top right corner of the page he was on and then closed the book and then headed in the direction he head seen the woman go.
However, his attention was diverted when the library's entrance was opened again and a boy who looked about sixteen-years old walked in and headed in Brennan's direction. "I'm looking for for a book on the history of Mystic Falls. Like the town stats and stuff," he said. "Resource section by the front desk. Come on, I'll give you a hand," he said and led the boy to the desk, went passed the desk, and then pulled some books from the shelves that were behind the desk. He then walked back to where the boy was waiting. "I think these should help you. I'm not really sure what they all entail as I haven't looked through them yet so I'm afraid I won't be much help," he said apologetically as he placed the books in front of the boy. "Nah, it's cool. Is it okay if I stay here and look through them?" he questioned. "Go ahead," Brennan told him. "You need me for anything?" "Nah, I should be fine." Brennan nodded and then after making sure one final time that the boy had everything that he needed, he continued to walk through the library, heading in the direction that he had seen the woman go.
When he finally got there, he noticed that she was at a table, hunched over a book. Hmmm...I wonder what she's reading about, he mused. Some of the history books were actually pretty interesting, though a lot of them were kinda dry. Then again, all history was interesting in its own way. In what other genre could you read about the Old West or Mayan civilization? Okay, so he was more of an Old West kind of a guy, but the thought was the same: all books took you two a different world or time, but history books were far more accurate and definitely more interesting. Hope she doesn't mind me interrupting, he thought to himself. He knew that a lot of people preferred to be alone when they had a good book in their hands, but what kind of librarian would he be if he didn't at least make sure that she had found everything okay?
When he was close enough, he cleared his throat so that he wouldn't scare her. "Excuse me, I don't want to interrupt, but I just wanted to check and make sure you had found everything okay," he said. Dude! That sounds like the worst pick up line! he berated himself. And it wasn't supposed to be a pick up line. It was just as he said: he wanted to make sure that she hadn't been looking for something and had just started reading a random book when she couldn't find the one that she was actually looking for. Heaven knew he had done that many times. Sometimes he was just too stubborn to ask for help...which was kind of odd considering that he was a librarian...
OOC I know the word count doesn't match yours, but hopefully it's long enough to give you something to work with.

Ali was reading her new book as she heard her phone vibrate. It was ringing non-stop. She had it on vibrate while she was in the library but still could hear it and knew it was everyone at the meetings looking for her. They shouldn't have to question why she left. it was a bore. Ali was a lively person and liked to be entertained. being in a library was more fun than sitting in meetings any given day to her. Ali took a sip of her tea as she read her book and then heard a man. She didn't even look up before speaking. "Isn't it fascinating how Iceland and Greenland got their names?" She asked in her thick british accent before looking up and smiling and standing, going for another book.
Ali smiled at the man. "I'm finding everything just fine, Merci." She said with a bright smile then looked towards the door. "i've actually been in meetings all day and I'm hiding from my manager and agent" She said with a small chuckle. Ali held out her hand to the man. "Alessandra" She said, smiling at him. "it must be fascinating working at a library...you have unlimited access to unlimited knowledge" She said as she walked past some shelves, grazing her hand over the books, before turning and looking back at him. "What is your favorite book...Brennan, is it?" She asked looking at his name tag then smiling at him. Something that really annoyed Ali about the industry she was in was that people often thought of themselves as better as everyone else just because they made more money, had body guards and had people following them around. None of that amused Ali though. What amused her was the everyday hard workers and someone working in a library doing what they love and being around what they love. Ali loved that and admired it. She didn't look down on anyone and always tried to be the best possible person she could be and the nicest and welcome everyone with open arms.

Brennan waited patiently for her response and got it in the form of a question about Greenland and Iceland. "I don't think I know the story. I just know that it confused me as a kid because Greenland was covered in ice and Iceland was covered in grass or something," he answered. To be truthful, he had always thought someone should legally switch the names, but hey, what did he know about such things? He was just a librarian, not an explorer.
He watched as she stood up and got a new book, assuring him that she was finding everything just fine. "Good. I'm glad," he said. He then laughed as she confessed that she had been in meetings all day and was now hiding from her manager and agent. "I don't blame you a bit. Sometimes you just need some space," he commented. And that was certainly the truth. Oh, don't get him wrong, he liked hanging out with people, but there were just times when he preferred to be alone. "Alessandra. Pretty name," he said. He then grinned as she said that it was probably fascinating to be working in a library as it gave a person unlimited access to unlimited knowledge. "I love it. There's just---there's nothing better than being surrounded by books," he said. [color=green["I mean, with one book you can be a pirate and in another book you can be traveling all over the world,"[/color] he added. Then, "Sorry. I get a little carried away sometimes." He really had a bad habit of talking people's ears off about books and how they could whisk you away to another time and place. Usually there was someone there to tell him to shut up, but seeing as how he had just moved here, he didn't have anyone to stop him from being a total dork. But Allessandra didn't seem to mind. In fact, she asked him what his favorite book was. "I have to pick just one?" he joked. "I like Treasure Island and Tom Sawyer and I'm currently re-reading Call Of The Wild," he continued. "How 'bout you? What's your favorite book?" he wondered.

Ali smiled and chuckled slightly as he said he had always been confused as a kid. "you and everyone else if they don't know the story" She said with a bright smile. "Way back when...the Vikings were running from the Europeans and went to Iceland and didn't want to be found so they switched the names to confuse the Europeans...to great success because it worked and is still working today" She said laughing and then closed her book and put it in front of her. She nodded as he said sometimes you just need some space. "Definitely, I don't even know the point in me being there. They all sit around, talking about me, fighting over me, asking me my opinion in things but then continue to talk about me as if I'm not there, so I won't be missed I'm sure" She said with a slight chuckle.
"Thank you" She said turning and smiling at him as he said it was a pretty name. She laughed as he explained that there was nothing better. "it's like a serenity, no? It's a way to find peace and calm yourself...de-stress and even find yourself maybe. I'f you're lucky" She said. Books was how Ali found herself as a person. She liked to think that they shaped her into the woman she was today. She always had her nose in a good book. She liked to have fun and explore. When she wasn't exploring the world on her own two feet, she was curled up in a book exploring the world that way.
"Call of the wild...classic...Jack London was one strange man" She said cocking her head to the side with a smile as he said he was re-reading it. She shook her head as he asked her favorite. "I don't believe I could pick just one" She said laughing slightly. "I have favorite authors...Virginia Woolf...Shakespeare...Moby Dick is a classic and easily a favorite" She said with a smile.

Brennan listened as Alessandra stated that he and everyone else who hadn't heard the story was confused, and then went on to explain that the VIkings had discovered Iceland while they were on the run from the Europeans and in order to confuse them, had changed the name, which had worked as it still confused people today. "That's pretty clever. Gotta give 'em that," he stated. And it was. After all, what better way to get people off of your back than to make them confused about where you lived? He then listened sympathetically as she went on to say that the people at the meeting would often spend their time talking about and asking her questions, and then forgetting that she was there and that they probably wouldn't miss her. "Well, that sucks," he said. If they're not going to value her opinion or treat her like an equal, why bother asking for her input? he wondered. If you asked him, it was rather insulting. NOt that anyone would ask him, but anyways, he was getting off track.
Apparently his compliment had pleased her for she smiled and thanked him. Then it was his turn to smile as she said that being surrounded by books was like a type of serenity as you could find peace and calmness while being surrounded by books and that if you were lucky, you could find yourself. "Yeah, I know what you mean. When I'm having a bad day, there's nothing I like better than to pick up a book and transport myself to another world whether it's France if I'm reading A Tale Of Two Cities or Neverland if I'm reading Peter Pan," he responded. And it was true. He had spent many bad days wrapped in another world in an attempt to forget his troubles. Granted, the troubles were still there when the book was finished, but at least it was an outlet.
He laughed when she said that Jack London was a strange man. "Yeah, he sure was," he agreed. "But his writing's excellent," he stated and then he nodded in understanding when she said that she couldn't just pick one and named some of her favorite authors. "Don't think I've read any Virginia Wolfe and I haven't had the pleasure of reading Moby Dick yet," he admitted. He had always wanted to read Moby Dick, but he hadn't gotten around to it yet. "I mean, I know the basic plot, but..." his voice trailed off. Yeah, he was starting to babble, but hopefully she wouldn't mind.
