Alaric sat at his desk, allowing students to file in on their own accord. He only half expected the students to actually show up. This was a local history class, traditionally a blow-off course for most of the seniors trying to get through graduation.
This year he had some familiar faces, though, although he could guess why. Local history is an easy A when you lived it. As a hunter, Alaric should have had a problem knowing his class was full of vampires, but he didn't mind. It wasn't like he wasn't best friends with one, and let's just say he didn't follow that 'no weapons on campus' policy quite as well as they thought he was.
As the students filed in, he stood and wrote the date "1959" on the board. He walked to the front of his desk and leaned against it, watching students take their seats.
This isn't going to be a large class, so I think we can get through most of this quickly. For those of you who don't know, most of your class credit is going to come from helping with the community events. Founders day stuff, the pagaent, the ball. Mrs. Forbes will be glad to have you, I'm sure.
He said, a small smile on his face. He was hoping he wouldn't have too much go on in this class. Like his students, his expectations were set to low. There was so much going on in his life right now, that he had for the most part blown off planning classes and assignments. Truth be told, he was winging it. I trust most of you will pass this class with flying colors with the amount of emphasis the town puts on its history. He raised his eyebrows and looked at the kids in front of him. He wasn't going to make this a hard class. How could it be? If you grew up here, you had this information drilled into your mind from infancy. Beep...beep...beep..beep Kasia's alarm clock echoed throughout her room and made her want to smash it. Mornings were never her thing, in fact she very much loved to sleep in and not have to worry about being late to anything or rushing to get homework done that she had put off, but sadly that wasn't the case today. She had already hit the snooze button twice this morning and was about to do so again, but when she got a glance at what time it was she jumped out of bed in a panic. She was gonna be late to class.
The young girl scrambled across her room as she grabbed a decent pair of clothes and threw them on before putting her hair up in a really messy bun and then slipping some shoes on rushing out the door. Maybe if I go fast enough I won't show up as late...
she thought as she shoved her key into the ignition and sped off towards the school. Being late was something of a pet peeve for Kasia, she would rather have her mom call in sick for her than show up late so that she could avoid all the stares from the students and the possible annoyed teacher, but she knew that her mom wasn't going to do that her. The school quickly came into view as she took a sharp turn into the school parking lot and parked her car in the first empty spot that she could find. Not wanting to waste anymore time, she scurried inside to her locker and got the books that she needed before taking off down the hall while she scanned each room number until she finally saw the one she was looking for. Taking a gulp, she slowly walked inside right as the teacher seemed to be explaining something. What great timing.. she thought nervously as she saw some of her classmates look at her with curiosity. ”Sorry for interrupting. I think I'll just..uh..take a seat...somewhere.” she said shyly as she tried to ignore all the eyes that were peering at her. She had a feeling that today wasn't going to be such a good day for her, and it had only just begun.[/blockquote][/blockquote] W O R D S * 371 ;; T H O U G H T S * ;; T A G G E D * ;; W E A R I N G * clicky ;; C R E D I T S * bruno mars' lazy song ;;

Stefan really didn't want to go to school today. Not after Katherine had just turned Elena. He wasn't even sure how he felt about it, to be honest. Oh, he knew that if it was up to him, he'd spend the rest of eternity with her, but she hadn't been given that choice. It had been forced on her like he had forced it on Damon. And to make things even more difficult, she hadn't completed the transition, so right now she was in between. So, nope. He really didn't want to go school today. But he had to. He had to pretend that nothing was wrong: that he was just another human. Great. I was never that good of an actor, he thought to himself. And to top it all off: he was hungry...as usual. He wanted human blood again. He had had a taste and he wanted more. But how could he get more when he ran the risk of of losing it? Okay, yes, he had been starting off slow with drinking from Elena, but now that option was out. But even when it had been an option, he hadn't wanted to do it too much as he ran the risk of hurting her. But that wasn't going to happen now. He was stuck with the struggle and the risk of hurting somebody innocent. And if he ever did that...No! He wasn't going to think like that! He had to trust himself! And besides, he had to go to school as it would help him to keep up appearances. With an unneeded sigh, he blurred into a dark blue short-sleeved v-neck, a pair of black jeans, and black Reebok sneakers. He then grabbed his school supplies, tossed them into a black backpack, zipped it up, grabbed his car keys, and then walked out, getting into his Coupe, starting the engine, and then driving down the road towards Mystic Falls High.
A few moments later, he got to the school parking lot, parked his car, and then turned off the engine. Then, he slung the pack over his shoulder and walked into his first class, which was history with Alaric. Well, at least he was starting the day off right. Alaric was someone he liked, so he wouldn't be wanting to eat him the whole time. Not like when Tanner had been in charge of the class. He had never been a fan of guys who thought they were superior to everyone else and acted like it, so keeping Ripper under control doing that class had been a bit of a chore. But that wasn't a problem anymore thanks to Damon. Okay, yes, at the time he had been upset since his brother had killed the teacher just to prove that his humanity was off, but in the long run, things had worked out swimmingly for the younger Salvatore...not that he'd ever admit that.
He then entered the classroom and took a seat as Alaric stated that he felt that they could get through the course rather quickly as the class wasn't a large one and that most of their credit was going to come from helping out with the community events such as the Founder's Ball and the pageant. "I'm staying away from the Founder's Ball. Nothing ever good happens to me," he muttered. Not that the last ball he had attended as a human had been all that bad, but the less reminders he had of Katherine, the better. He then let out a chuckle as the teacher stated that he was sure the sheriff would be glad to have help. "Yeah, I'm sure she would be," he murmured seriously. Of course, she'd probably just be relieved that there was still people around. And he was getting distracted again. See, this was what happened when he messed with his diet: his thought process got messed up.
He then chuckled as the man said that they could all probably pass the class with flying colors as the town tended to emphasize their local history. You mean the history they want us to believe, he thought to himself with a surge of annoyance. Yes, okay, he was still a bit miffed at the original Founding Families. Not so much for the Katherine thing anymore, but more for the fact that they knew how to keep secrets real good. Okay, so not going down that road...
His heavy thoughts were broken into when the door opened to reveal a girl around his physical age with long, brunette hair who was wearing a lavender top with a pair of dark blue jeans that were ripped in one knee and a pair of white shoes. As she apologized for the interruption and said that she'd just take a seat somewhere, Stefan subtly---at least, he hoped it was subtle---gestured an empty seat next to him. Hey, he had been the new kid once upon a time...a long time ago, mind you, but in a way, he still remembered how it felt.

Elena Gilbert was a vampire. Well technically not yet. She hadn't fed yet. Katherine killed her yesterday and she was in transition without technically completing the transition. Elena woke up that morning to a loud ringing in her ears that seemed like it was piercing her ears. She winced out in pain. She then realized that it was just the coffee maker that Aunt Jenna had put on. Elena got out of bed and turned on her shower. She hopped in and washed herself up and washed her hair. She was hoping to go on as normal. No one knew that she was turning yet except for Stefan. Who has been there for her through it all. She just wasn't ready to feed. She had to think about things. There was a lot to think about for her. She just couldn't believe that this was happening like this. It wasn't supposed to happen. She wasn't supposed to die. Elena got out of her shower and dried off and put the towel around her. She walked back into her bedroom and stopped in her tracks when she saw Damon sitting by her window. "I'm not in the mood Damon" She said as she ignored him and walked over to her dresser. She heard him comment on her pj's and she turned around confused. "I'm not..." She said about to say she wasn't wearing her pj's but then turned around to see images of herself and he wasn't actually talking to the Elena standing in a towel. She furrowed her brows as she tried to figure out what was going on. She listened and watched the whole thing as Damon compelled her. She closed her eyes for a second before shaking it from her head as it finished. She knew that was one of the things that was supposed to happen in transition was to have all the memories of every compulsion come back to you. Damon told her he was in love with her, and then compelled her to forget. Elena shook that from her head. He didn't know what love was. He killed Jeremy and then admitted he didn't know he was wearing the ring that he just got lucky. Stefan was capable of love. That was the difference. He loved Elena in a completely different way. He would never hurt her which included never hurting the people she loves. Elena ignored what she just witnessed and got dressed and ready for school. Elena was very much in denial. She wanted to pretend like yesterday never even happened. She wasn't ready for the reality of it which was that she needed to drink human blood soon or else she would desiccate. Elena finished getting ready. She looked in the mirror and saw the girl she used to be. She was completely clueless of the fact that she looked really sick. She was pale and breaking out in a cold sweat and shaking. She ignored this image and saw the image she much rather preferred. The old her. Elena headed to school in her car and almost got in an accident on the way because of the noises she was hearing. She tried as best she could to ignore them and finally pulled up to the school. She wanted to go on as normal and the best way she knew how to do that was to go to school. Which is exactly what she was doing. Elena walked down the halls slowly. She jumped at the sound of every locker that was slammed that sounded like a banging rock concert in her head. She needed to get out of the halls. She picked up the pace and darted straight for Alaric's room. She jerked the door open quickly and went inside closing it behind her. She closed her eyes and leaned up against the door, taking in a deep breath and letting it out slowly, unaware that there were already people in the classroom. She opened her eyes and saw people looking at her then saw Stefan who would probably kill her for coming to class. She was losing her mind though. She didn't know what to do. Elena looked at Alaric and pointed behind her at the door. "Sorry I uhhh..." She said trying to think of an excuse but she bit her tongue coming up blank. "sorry" She simply said as she saw an empty seat next to her boyfriend. She went and sat next to him and set her things down as she looked straight ahead, taking in deep breaths. Elena heard a persistent tapping that sounded like a drill in her head. She started shaking her leg some to try and control it. She closed her eyes trying to ignore the sound but she couldn't. She looked at the guy sitting next to her and saw him tapping his pencil. Elena reached over and took the pencil out of his hand. "Stop...please" She said calming down a little after the noise stopped. For a few seconds she was fine. Until she felt a tremendous pain in her mouth, more so in her gums. She brought her hand up over her mouth, trying not to be obvious about everything and still unaware of exactly how bad and sick she looked.

Alaric greeted the new girl and told her to take a seat anywhere. He didn't mind that students were late, he was kind of greatful any showed up at all. The second he saw some familiar names on his class roster, he knew he'd have at least a couple solid students, but he couldn't say much about the rest. Elena walked in and looked like she'd just seen a ghost...ohkay that wasn't so far fetched in this town...but Alaric couldn't shake the weirdness as she sat down next to Stefan.
Uhm, ohkay guys, since not everyones here, let's just start reading. Easy enough, right?
He wasn't using a general textbook for this class, but a book written by a friend of his ex-wife. It included hints of the lore, but mostly doctored facts. He hoped the kids that actually did the reading would be able to pick up on the hidden history at least enough to ask questions, but he didn't expect too much. The ones that did the reading would probably be the vampires. He sat a stack of the books on his desk. Kasia, right? Can you pass these out for me. He smiled at the girl before busying himself with paperwork on his desk. Stefan. He breathed, watching him closely. Is there something going on I should know about. He knew no one but vampires would have been able to hear him. It was the safest way to get his point across in a room of humans. He couldn't risk exposing it all. [/blockquote][/blockquote] NOTES: TAGS: anyone.

Kasia gave off a curt nod when she heard the teacher tell her to just take a seat anywhere. She was thankful that he didn't seem to mind her tardiness too much and didn't seem to be the kind to make a big deal out of it. She grimaced a little bit as she thought back to the school she had previously been attending and how some of the teachers would call students out for being late and make a spectacle out of them in front of the class. That school had been where she initially learned to never be late for class and was something that would probably always stick with her.
The brunette quickly scanned the room for any signs of an empty seat but didn't need to look that far before she caught a glimpse of a guy quietly pointing out that the seat next to him was empty. Not wanting to cause any more of a scene than she already had, she quietly walked over to the desk but took note of the girl that was sitting on the other side of him. This girl looked really pale as if she were sick and she wasn't quite sure, but it looked as if she might be shaking a little. She instantly felt bad for the girl and wondered why she wasn't at home getting rest.
Finally, Kasia sat down at the once empty desk and placed her small purse on the ground next to her desk. ”Thanks.”
she breathed out to the boy next to her as she took out a pencil and notebook and placed them on her desk so that she was ready for whatever the teacher had in store for the class. This class seems painfully awkward right now, or maybe it just feels that way because I'm new... she thought, but she was brought back to reality when she heard the teacher start to talk again. Her attention was focused towards the front of the classroom as she listened to the teacher tell them that they were just going to read for now since not everyone had arrived yet, but then was a little surprised when he had asked her to hand out the text books that were currently piled up on his desk. The young girl slowly walked up to the desk and grabbed some books and quickly began to pass them out, but when she had gotten to the girl that didn't look like she felt that good, she stopped long enough to say a few words to her. ”I hope you're going to be okay...” she softy with a hint of concern before moving on and handing out the next book.[/blockquote][/blockquote] W O R D S * 453 ;; T H O U G H T S * ;; T A G G E D * ;; W E A R I N G * clicky ;; C R E D I T S * bruno mars' lazy song ;;

He couldn't believe this. Elena had shown up. Why had she shown up? Oh, he understood needing ties to her humanity, but she wasn't in the best place to be running that risk. She hadn't even transitioned yet and the allure of blood was at its strongest. Okay, just chill out, Stefan. Everything's going to be okay, he told himself. Yeah, if only he could believe that. She stammered out an apology and then came to sit in a chair next to him. "Are you sure you're up for this? You haven't even transitioned yet," he said in a concerned tone that was soft enough for only them to hear. Transitioned. Oh, he wished that he had never even heard of the word. He wished that he and Damon had never met Katherine. But then, if wishes were horses...the vampire gave himself a mental shake. They could do this. He'd help her get through the school day.
Stefan looked at Alaric who seemed a bit confused as he went on to say that since not everyone was there that they should just start reading, which was simple enough. And it was. Yeah, okay, so the history book was coming out. Along with some paper so he could jot down some ideas about how to get rid of his Sire. A good old-fashioned staking came to mind, but he was in no way strong enough to even consider taking her on again. But for the moment, they didn't have a textbook on hand, so Grisham it was. With that, he reached into his backpack for the current one that he was reading, pulled it out, and opened it to the chapter he was on, hoping that the book would prove to be a distraction from his panicked feelings.
It was while he was reading---well, pretending to read, as he found that he was constantly glancing at Elena to make sure that she was handling everything okay---that the new girl came in and he looked up briefly before motioning to the empty seat next to him. Yes, it was probably a bad idea to have someone sitting so close to Elena, but what exactly was he supposed to do? It wasn't like there were a whole lot of empty seats and besides, he was in front of Elena and could stop her if need be. Then it came. The tapping of a pencil. A simple enough noise and one that could easily be tuned out...unless you were in transition or a new vampire. No, for someone in Elena's position, that tapping was pure Hell. "Concentrate, Lena. Focus on my voice. Just me," he murmured for her ears only. If he could get her focused on him, perhaps it would help her to tune the noise out. Hopefully...
A few minutes later, Alaric asked the new girl---whose name was apparently Kasia---to pass out the textbooks, which she started to do. As she was doing this, Stefan watched as Elena finally had enough and turned to the guy who had been tapping his pencil, and took the pencil, telling him to stop. "Focus, Lena. You're okay," he soothed. Yes, her coming here today had been a really bad idea and if she had mentioned it to him, he would've tried to talk to her out of it. Which was probably why she hadn't mentioned it to him. Not that he'd deny her wish to still have a normal life. He just would've waited until she was feeling a bit more stable.
Then, Elena covered her hand with her mouth and Stefan straightened up. From her expression, he could tell something was going on. And Stefan had a pretty good idea of what it was. Her vampire instincts were starting to take over, which meant the bloodlust was rising and her fangs were wanting to come out. "Elena, Elena, listen to me. You need to focus, okay?" he said in a voice that only she could hear, glancing at her. He wanted so much to just get up and put a hand on her shoulder, but that would draw too much attention and he had a feeling that was the last thing she wanted. "Just focus on my voice. You're probably feeling your fangs wanting to come out because of all of the blood you smell. Inhale and exhale, push the bloodlust down," he murmured in a voice only she could hear, ignoring Kasia when she said that she hoped Elena would be all right before she gave him a text book---which he placed on his desk--- and she moved on to the next person.
At Alaric's lowered question, Stefan glanced at him. He wanted to know if there was something going on that he should know about. Understatement. "Elena's in transition," he responded. And there it was: the ugly reality that they were facing. And it was all because of Katherine. His bitch of a Sire who was fixated on him and wanted to hurt him. She claimed to love him and yet she did everything in her power to try to control him. Well, that made sense. That was what she love was. Stefan didn't even realize he had been gripping his book until he heard a ripping sound. He let out a groan as he stared at the book that was now ripped in two. He then uttered a word in his native language that would've definitely earned him a smack from his father if he had heard it. "I liked this copy," he complained.

Elena heard every single noise as if it were piercing her ears. She couldn't stand it, the noise, the pain, it was all too much. Elena heard Stefan talking to her but couldn't even look at him. She breathed heavily in and out. Yes, this was a bad idea. Her coming here was a terrible idea. She needed to be at home. She needed to be at home with Stefan helping her but Stefan was coming to school so she figured she would also. She heard him ask her if this was a good idea and she shook her head. "No but what else am I supposed to do? I can't stay at home, If I hear one more song through Jeremy's headphones or one more ice fall from the ice maker I'm going to lose it Stefan...I don't know what else to do" She said commenting on how she could hear everything but she looked over at her boyfriend and spoke in a whisper. She heard Alaric ask if there was something he should know and Elena looked at Stefan. She didn't know what to tell him. Then she saw a girl standing in front of her, telling her she hoped she would be okay. Elena heard her but all she could do was stare at her neck. There was a vein popping out of her neck and she could hear the blood flow through. This was when the pain in her mouth got worse. It was an uncontrollable throbbing pain. She heard Stefan try and calm her down and all she did was stare at the girls neck taking deep breaths. "But it's so loud Stefan" She said getting more and more aggravated. Finally Elena closed her eyes and took in a really long breath and then let it out. She did this a couple more times as she found herself calming down, she listened to Stefan's voice as she found it to be calming to her. Elena looked up at Alaric slowly as Stefan told him that she was in transition. She didn't know what he would think of that. Elena didn't want this. This was the last thing she wanted but now, she had the chance to be with Stefan forever and that little ray of hope is what was keeping her going. "Stefan it's so loud" She said talking generally about everything and also the screaming for blood.

He didn't hear exactly what Stefan said, but the look on his face told him everything. Then his eyes fell to Elena, she was about to jump out of her skin.
Every noise made her flinch, and when the girl, Kasia, stopped at Elenas desk, Alaric witnessed the unmistakable signs of a vampire trying to compose herself.
It took all he had not to fall over right there. No. He murmured. He turned to face the chalkboard so he could compose himself. This couldn't be happening, not to Elena. She was a daughter to him. He didn't want this life for her, she didn't want it for herself. Who could have...
Katherine.
A wave of fury washed over him. That bitch would die for this. He took a breath and turned back to the class, seeing Kasia take her seat again. He walked over to Elenas desk and leaned in.
If you need to leave, go. Stefan can take you. He murmured. He wasn't completely sure she would agree, but he had to give her that option.
Although, if he had to admit, if she was going to be at school, his class was the best place for her.
