It's not so different.
Okay, sure there were some new buildings, some new shops, and some new people. But looking around, it all felt familiar. She had lived most of her life in this town and even after leaving it for about four years, she still felt like she had come home. It was a strange sensation. She had thought she would never see Mystic Falls again, or at least not for many years, but here she was walking through town square. A life lesson for sure, never say never.
Meredith lifted one of her slender hands and pushed some hair back behind her ear, allowing her to see the watch on the wrist of her other hand. It was after midnight. She probably shouldn't be out so late, but she and her parents had only just finished unpacking after their long trip from New York. Well, 'finished' was a strong word. 'Just started' seemed more accurate. But Meredith had what she needed to survive for a night unpacked and the rest could wait. But she couldn't resist taking a walk to see the town in it's current glory.
Unfortunately, it was too late to go and visit her friends. While back in the day the occasional sneaking out in the middle of the night for a late night visit wouldn't have been a problem (at least with her friends) things were different now. They could have to get up early for some responsibility of some sort or something. No, Meredith wanted to get her return off on the right foot, so seeing her friends again would have to wait until tomorrow. Then she would visit at a more reasonable time and what was up with them these days. If she was being honest with herself, she was feeling a little nervous at the idea of seeing them again. Not that there was any evidence of this on the outside. To anyone around seem just looked like a teenage girl that had paused to admire an old tree she remembered. There was no hint at the butterflies within that swarmed at the thought of the morning.
Meredith glanced up at the stars, which were more visible in Mystic Falls with the lack of so much light pollution, and figured she should probably get back home. She could do more looking around tomorrow, if her friends were busy or what-not. Right now however, it seemed a good idea to get some sleep before her big return and she still had to walk home. Her dad had said he would get her a car, basically a buy-off so she wouldn't complain about the sudden move, but it would be a couple of days before she actually had it. Didn't really matter to her though, she didn't mind a pleasant stroll home.
