* Jeremy Gilbert !
Some of the greater things in life are unseen thats why you close your eyes when you kiss, cry, or dream...
full name: Jeremy Gilbert
nicknames: Jer, Jer Bear
date of birth: March 13, 1994
hometown: Mystic Falls, Virginia
species: Human
abilities: Besides having a ring that keeps him immortal, nothing really, besides average hand to hand combat
height: 6’5
weight: 165lbs
hair: Alternates from having Messy Spikey Brown Hair, or long and bangy
eyes: Brown
play by: Steven R. McQueen
likes: Friends, Elena (even though she nags), People (Sometimes), Supernatural, Geeky Stuff.
dislikes: Elena’s Naggy-ness, Annoying People, Damon, Tyler
strengths: His Smartyness, His knowledge of the Supernatural, Deception, Slyness
weaknesses: Love. Nothing destroys you quite like that. Jeremy’s been unwise in who he’s invested his affections in so all he’s known is hurt and loss, yet his heart is still open for more, that and getting close to someone, he can never really go through with it. It just hurts to say goodbye.
fears: Apathy. It creeps up on him and every time its hold gets stronger. What might happen if he gives into the feeling- or lack of- frightens him.
secrets: Jeremy feels… incomplete. There’s this gaping hole in him that, if he’s honest, was there even before his parents died. He has no idea how to fix it and it’s killing him
personality: It was pretty clear from the start that Elena was the golden child, the pretty one who could do no wrong because everyone adored her. Jeremy was friendly but kind of shy, he didn’t have that extra whatever the hell it was that had people eating out of the palm of his sister’s hand but that was cool with him. Being the center of attention is a horrifying thought but on occasion he’ll take the spotlight when it shines on him. Art was his element; he was really good at sketching and wanted to expand to other mediums at some point. Also, having less of a social life gave him more time to study so he usually pulled better grades than Elena, especially in math and science.
His parents’ death changed a lot of things for him but despite his brush with drug dealing and the sullenness he hides behind, Jeremy is a really decent guy. He’s very sensitive but verbalizing his emotions is something he isn’t very good at that. It’s easy to see when he cares about someone though, because he puts a lot of time and effort into making them happy. There are times when he gets so invested in someone that he forgets to take care of himself too but he has always been a dependent kind of person. He’s also been a bit of a loner and though it never bothered him before, it’s taking its toll now. He feels like he has no one he can turn to and this loneliness is driving him to some very dark places.
mother: Unknown
father: UNknown
siblings: Elena Gilbert (Surrogate Sister)
other family: above (Cousins)
other important people: Anna (Dead), Vicki (Dead)
history: Jeremy Gilbert got a good start in life, better than most people. Two parents who loved him and each other. No divorce on the horizon or abuse or anything of that nature. He wasn’t spoiled beyond belief but he never wanted for anything either. He even had an older sister that he got along with amazingly well. She’d crash Tonka trucks with him and he’d sit through tea parties with a cadre of her stuffed animals. Of course the teen years saw a lot more fighting, slammed doors, and damaged personal items but the siblings always made up pretty quickly. Their bond was built on compromise and truth: Elena and Jeremy told each other the things they would never admit to anyone else.
As he came to learn very quickly, such happiness doesn’t last. Something comes along to fuck it up for everyone. Like the car crash that nearly took his whole family. As he’d sat in that antiseptic hospital room and prayed that Elena would wake up and not be a vegetable or something, he seriously contemplated morality for the first time in fifteen years. Everyone had to live with death hanging over their heads but it shouldn’t have to come so suddenly. It wasn’t fair. He was so angry, so hurt, so… alone. How the hell was he supposed to live when fate had decided to tear his world in half then smash the remaining pieces? Where did he even start trying to fit everything back together to make the picture whole again?
Elena lived and recovered quickly, which was a relief but even she wasn’t the same. That inner light which drew people to his sister like moths to the flame was just gone and Jeremy felt like he had nothing to cling to. Elena always wanted to talk about what happened and though he would listen if he had to, Jeremy couldn’t find the words to release his own pain. So he drew away from her and tried to find his own way to deal. He found it in the forms of pot, various prescription drugs, and alcohol with the help of none other than Vicki Donovan. Jeremy had a crush on Matt’s older sister for nearly as long as the dude had been crushing on his sister but he never thought she’d be interested in him. Honestly, he knew she only started being so nice to him out of pity but despite what anyone else says Jeremy also knows that over time it grew to be more than that.
He loved her. Even when she scorned him for Tyler on repeated occasions he didn’t give up because she was the only thing that had made him happy in months. Besides, he cared about her more than that Smallwood jerk ever did. They were really starting to go somewhere but suddenly Vicki changed. She was acting really strange, which he attributed to the drugs she was more into than he was, and then she just disappeared. For some reason, Jeremy wasn’t too upset about it and he went on with his life, falling back into his old routines and becoming more like the person he was before his parents died. He felt like something was missing and there was this lingering sadness but he just didn’t know why.
Eventually he met another girl, Anna. She helped him write a paper on vampires for extra credit and then just kind of continued to hang around him. She was kind of pushy and quirky but it was sort of charming. And she seemed to get him more than anyone else did. But there was definitely something off about her and if she hadn’t planted the vampire idea in his head, he might not have come around to the conclusion about both Anna and, hopefully Vicki. Jeremy tested Anna and she revealed herself which eventually led him to asking her to turn him. She refuses but he doesn’t give up, knowing that this might be his only chance to reconnect with his former love. At the same time he’s conflicted because he has feelings for Anna too but he can’t deny that Vicki is the reason he wants to join the vampiric ranks.
But then that doesn’t matter anymore. Vicki’s body was found in the woods and his last hope is dashed. He admits this to Anna and she avoids him due to her hurt feelings. Then, as if his life isn’t screwed up enough, he reads Elena’s journal and finds out all the things she’s been hiding from him: the truth about Vicki, using Damon to rape his memories, and even the fact that she’s not really his sister. Oh and her psychotic vampire mother kidnapping him and hurting his uncle John? Yeah, that was a lot of fun. No amount of apologizing over that or anything else could get Elena back into his good graces though. He might’ve been able to forgive the lies but getting his memories altered? That’s not something Jeremy is willing to overlook.
His world is blown apart yet again when Anna, along with other vampires, gets carted off during the Founder’s Day celebration and he can’t do anything to stop it. Later that night Damon informs him that she’s dead, something he assumed from the moment she was taken. Jeremy feels like he has nothing left and no other options so he downs the vial of blood Anna gave him. Earlier that day she’d finally agreed to change him and he’d gotten cold feet. It was too late to be with her now but maybe if vampires really could turn off their emotions he wouldn’t have to miss her. After washing the blood down with a bottle of painkillers he lays down to wait for the change to happen, hoping the world will be different the next time he opens his eyes.

role play sample: They trudged back through the snow then up the cleared path to Shylah’s house as a litany of curse words that would have made a sailor blush rattling through Toby’s brain. If Koda didn’t get the garage on the line - which he wasn’t expecting him to since it was after 8pm - then they really would be stuck at Shy’s house. Which wouldn’t have been bad if Anya hadn’t been there too. And speak of the devil, she was right there in the doorway as he trailed his best friend into the house. If Anya didn’t look surprised to see them he might’ve thought she was waiting.
Koda and Shylah went off to the kitchen, presumably to make that call to Lucky’s garage, and left him alone in the entryway with his former one night stand. Since he had the feeling that he wouldn’t be escaping this house tonight and he needed something to do in the silence that was stretching out between them, Toby took off his hat and gloves then shoved them into his coat pockets before taking that off as well. He hung it in the closet by the door but part of him was still hopeful for rescue so he left his shoes on.
He glanced over at Anya who was watching him with her dark eyes and an inscrutable expression. She looked good in a dark jeans that hugged her hips and a cream cable knit sweater that bared her golden shoulders. Her face was free of makeup and he noted from the grayish circles under her eyes that she was a little tired. Maybe she’d been working hard lately or something. October knew that feeling. In an attempt to force his life back to normalcy he’d taken even more hours at work so he was pretty much living in the bar. This weekend was his first off in two months.
Anya offered him a drink and his response was an automatic no but just five minutes ago he was the one rushing Koda out of the house for beers so she would know that wasn’t entirely true. He did want a drink. Hell, he wanted an entire bottle. But he so wasn‘t going there again. “Ah, I just mean look where that got us last time.” Toby had being trying for a joke, some semblance of their old banter, but the moment those words fell from his mouth they felt a little callous. He cursed and shook his head. “Water. Water would be nice, thanks.”
