secrets: Having been on her own for about 163 years or so, all Ruby has ever really wanted was to just belong. Of course most people shun her for her brash personality or cower away in fear of her vampiric nature. She is a tortured broken soul though who has grown sick of being lonely and isolated.
personality: At first glance, Ruby appears to be calm, cool, and collected. Then her mouth opens and at least one person in her general vicinity gets pissed off. The fact that she tends to speak before she thinks coupled with the fact that she also tends to be brutally honest and a sarcastic smartass often lands her in trouble. She is incredibly stubborn and has an attitude which she is not afraid to use.
She is impatient, cold, manipulative, cunning, intelligent, confident, and has a short temper. She is also surprisingly loyal. Once her friend, she will be loyal for life. Ruby tends to have a mama bear mentality when it comes to her closest friends and can be quite protective of them. She has been known to do whatever it takes to get whatever she wants no matter the cost which often sheds a bad light upon her, but she is used to it.
Ruby is quite resourceful and is used to taking care of herself. She isn't afraid of getting down and dirty in a fight. She is skilled in the art of compelling or mental manipulation, if you will. Though, she finds that it is just as easy to use the tried and true method of using her looks to manipulate in her favor. She embraces her sexuality fully though doesn't enjoy herself as much if she jumps in the sack with a human as she fears that her vampiric side coupled with her wildness in bed might actually hurt if not kill a human male.
She has a playful side and does love to have a good time. She also has no problem killing humans though she won't go out of her way to do so either. Though most vampires completely shut out their humanity, there are the extremely rare few that embrace their humanity and Ruby is one of them. Well, sort of. She mostly treats it as more of a light switch than anything else. She does embrace it at times, but for the most part she doesn't. She is adept at adapting into her surroundings and in addition to consuming human blood, Ruby also drinks animal blood though she prefers the taste of human blood.
The one thing about being a vampire that she hates after all these years is actually the heightened sense of emotions. It is the one thing that she has never quite been able to control and it drives her crazy at times. She is a romantic at heart though she feels that romance died the night her boyfriend did. Violence and Death are a part of her past as well as a part of her present. As much of a bitch as she is, Ruby often feels remorse every time she causes a death. She has tried many times to stick to the animal blood, but she never could quite resist the allure of human blood.

history: It all starts back in Greece where Elizabeth Kaligaris met and fell in love with Richard Covington III. Of course it wasn't long after they were married when Elizabeth discovered she was pregnant with the couple's first child. It was nine months later when little Ruby Marie Covington was brought into the world. There were complications during the birth, but both mother and child had survived. Ruby was a toddler when her parents moved with her to America and more specifically to what is now known as Mystic Falls, Virgina. She ran around in her pretty dresses and beautiful blonde pigtails. Ruby was five when her parents announced that she was going to be a big sister.
Avery Elizabeth Covington was brought into the world eight months later only a month shy of her due date. The complications from Ruby's birth had taken its toll on her mother and even though it was five years later, the doctor had warned her mother that another pregnancy could prove fatal. The doctor was proven right as Elizabeth passed away a few months after Ruby's sister Avery was born. Ruby was devastated as was her father who ultimately blamed her for her mother's death. Ruby taught Avery everything she needed to know about being a girl as they grew up.
When Ruby was sixteen, she met Noah Carlyle and it wasn't long after that when they fell in love. Her father of course disapproved of him, but she didn't care. It was only after she fell in love with Noah that she learned his secret. He was a vampire. The king of shadows and she ultimately wanted nothing more than to be his queen. She allowed him to feed off of her and in return she fed off of him. He proposed a year later with a lapis lazuli ring that he had made just for her. She happily accepted and they made plans for him to turn her.
It was the final night in April when they consummated their love and afterward, once she had consumed some of his blood, he snapped her neck. Ruby awoke moments later gasping as she sat up quickly. They shared a kiss only for her father to burst in. He fought with Noah only for Noah to bite him. Ruby screamed out in horror as Noah collapsed to the ground having just fed on vervain tainted blood. He gave Ruby a look conveying to her to keep quiet about her change and then vocally said that he loved her. She said it back and screamed at her father to not hurt him.
Tragically, it was too late for Noah as Ruby had to watch with her own eyes as her love was staked and burned right in front of her. She was devastated and knew that she was only in transition in terms of becoming a vampire. The blonde originally decided to refrain from drinking human blood knowing she'd die without it. Unfortunately for her, it wasn't to be as she came across her beloved little sister dead with a stake driven through her heart. Anger overcame Ruby when she saw the guilt written across their father's face plain as day and her face altered into its vampiric form as she pounced on her father. She threw her head back before clamping down on his neck and proceeded to drain him dry.
She was horrified by what she had done when it was over. Ruby tossed her father's remains in the fire and had her sister buried in the cemetery beside their mother. She fled Mystic Falls shortly after that and traveled all around the country. She even went abroad as well though she always found her way back to Mystic Falls. Over the years, Ruby changed the way she looked to keep up with the times and blend in easier. Currently, though, she is no longer sporting her long blonde locks as she has dyed them black. She has tried over the years to become a animal blood only vampire, but she still has yet to be able to resist the intoxicating allure of human blood.

"What do you think I'm doing here, Stefan? I came back for you.” She admitted completely unphased by the fact that he was nearly choking her. To her, it was almost a turn on. "I love you, Stefan. It will always be you." She said once he released her from his grip. A moment past and in a blink of an eye, Katherine had him pinned against the tree he had just pinned her against and looked into his eyes as their lips were barely a breath apart. "Let us get something straight here, Stefan. If it weren't for me, your precious Elena wouldn't exist. She is just a carbon copy, Stefan, but now you have the real thing right here."
Katherine tightened her hold on his neck and then let him go. She smoothed out her clothes and then rolled her eyes at the body. In the blink of an eye, she was gone along with the body. "You know, you probably would of actually hurt me a little bit had you not been dining on Thumper and Bambi. What? Scared you might hurt Elena if you get a taste of the good stuff? You do realize that soon she'll be older than you, right? She's going to die an old woman while you, my dear, stay just as handsome as you've always been." She cupped his face gently for a moment as she reappeared and then moved swiftly before he could grab her.
Katherine tilted her head slightly at him and raised her eyebrow. "I find it hilarious that you are the one mad at me when you were the one that had the vervain in your blood that nearly led to me being killed." She quipped and then her lips twisted into a smirk. "I always get what I want, Stefan, and what I want now is you. Don't waste your energy by saying no and never. We both know that you have been smitten with me since the day I stepped out of that carriage. It's why you got with Elena in the first place. The allure of a girl that looks identical to me. Admit it, Stefan. You wanted her to be me and a part of you is still disappointed that she is not me." The brunette remarked and in the blink of an eye, she had him pinned to the ground. "I won't tell if you won't tell.." Katherine trailed off as she straddled his hips while still pinning him to the ground.
