The wind caused the branches of the trees to tap on the window of his room. Nick moved a strand of hair out of his face in immense boredom and glanced outside at the night sky. As much as he hated the night, he needed to get out. He needed to go for a walk. To do something. With that settled, Nick threw on his jacket and shoes and left the house. He had yet to tell his brother he'd arrived. Biding his time was dull. It left him entirely too much time to think. Thinking always caused a problem. There were some things he did not want to remember.
It was a little after ten at night as he made his way to a place of escape. He needed to feel numb, he needed to not be able to feel just for a while and he knew exactly how to do that. Jack Daniels could be a very handy friend when one wanted to forget. So he found himself sitting in bar, drinking his troubles away trying to forget his new upside down, turned around life. Sure he would pay for it in the morning but that was then and this was now. Because the current moments were all that really mattered. He put his hand to his forehead, then took a sip of his drink as he looked around the bar.
He sighed and glanced at his watch, shaking his head. It was early... for him. Well, today it was anyway. It wasn’t that crowded; people dotted here and there – no more than thirty-five. He shifted his weight and fiddled with the glass in front of him. When he was married and wore his wedding band, he would often fiddle with that; but he didn’t have it anymore ... obviously. He rolled his sleeves up so that they were just past his elbows, before leaning on the bar. He wrapped his hand around the glass and raised it to his lips, gulping some of it down, before glancing up at the screen. The Chicago Cubs game was about to start, and although Nick wasn’t a fan, he didn’t mind watching them play.

----------------------- ----------------------- Jeremy had to work that day. He spent all day at school and then after school he started his new job at the Mystic Grill. Matt was already working there and he basically helped Jeremy get the job which he appreciated. This was his first day on the job and Matt would be working that night as well. Basically it was going to be Matt’s job to train Jeremy on what he had to do. He figured it would be easy work, tough but easy work. He didn’t mind working though because he got to earn money. Plus this was a good distraction from losing his parents, Vicky, and Anna. Jeremy had liked Vicky and Anna a lot. He was having a great time with both of them when he lost them. First he lost Vicky and Anna was helping him out with that. Then he learned about vampires and how Anna was one and then he lost her.
He even tried to kill himself so that he could be with Anna but that didn’t work out so well. He had a talk with Elena though and he realized how stupid he was to do that. So Jeremy got a job at the Mystic Grill. He couldn’t wait to start working and earning his own money. He was hoping that he would be able to save up some money to get himself a car. That would be nice so he didn’t have to walk around town though he didn’t mind. Sometimes walking around town was a good way to clear the head, which came in handy a lot of times especially when he needed to cool down. School was over and it was time to head to work. He left the school and headed towards the Mystic Grill. He was walking because Matt wouldn’t be there for a while as he had football practice. Jeremy would be at work early but that just meant he could work on his homework until it was time to clock in. He figured that would be better so he wouldn’t have to stay up too late trying to finish it later tonight. He got to the Mystic Grill and walked in saying hey to some kids who were already there that he knew. He sat down and started working on his homework.
Couple hours later it was time to clock in; Matt walked in just when Jeremy clocked in. Hey Matt he said as he watched Matt clock in. Matt showed him everything that his new job entitled him to do. He started working and it took a while but he got the hang of it. He actually started to enjoy the job so far. He had a dinner break after Matt did because two guys called in sick so Jeremy and Matt said they would work over time. After his break he went back to work. Hours passed and before he knew it the time was just a little past ten. He sighed and filled up a glass for some older guy. He sighed and looked at the guy. He looked like he had a lot on his mind. He wondered if the guy was okay. He didn’t want to bother him but maybe he just needed someone to talk to. Hey you okay sir he asked the guy. The place wasn’t packed at all right now so he had time to chat with the older man. ----------------------- WORD COUNT:: ---- TAG:: Nicholas Kirkland OUTFIT:: later NOTES:: First Jeremy Post On Here!

Nick hadn't been back from Nepal all that long. More specifically, he'd been in Lalitpur. He needed to clear his head and get himself straight on a couple of things and he'd found, through several contacts, that Hiranya Varna Mahavihar was an ideal place to do that. He stayed there for ten days without saying a single word. It was amazing how much you could learn about yourself in complete silence.
It was certainly something he looked forward to after the last case he had worked on. It was a particularly nasty serial killer who didn't fit any specific profile. As soon as Nick built up a pattern for the guy, he broke it, making him damn near impossible to catch. It was when the man started to go after children that Nick found himself the most disturbed. The boys were killed immediately, but the girls... They were kept alive a little bit longer. He'd broken the cardinal rule. He gave a parent false hope. He'd promised her that the children would be brought back alive. He was wrong.
He became obsessive about catching that man who, by then had switched his pattern again. There was only one similarity between the murders, the extreme amount of blood loss with no trace of flow. He was...expressly asked to take a vacation. Let someone else handle the case for a while. That mother's face wouldn't leave his mind. At the time, getting as far away from the situation as possible seemed like the best bet. He didn't know when he would be reinstated, but he was on a paid leave so he could be recalled at any time.
Then, to top it all off, the news of his brother's accident came down the line. He'd heard, alright, though not through the typical channels. Police had a much faster grapevine than people gave them credit for. By social security number, they were able to immediately find him and give him the news. Part of him had wanted to fly home immediately to check on his brother, but he'd already promised that woman that he would find her children for her and if he just left...
He'd managed to follow him all the way to this one-horse town in the middle of nowhere. He figured, after all that had happened, a surprise was in order. After all, it was in his nature. However, unlike his brother, he decided against staying with their grandmother. They might enjoy playing John Wayne out here, but he preferred to be where the action was. He was jarred from his thoughts by someone talking to him. His first impressions were that the guy was obviously a local, somewhere between the ages of sixteen and twenty-four, and looked too young to be employed in an establishment with a liquor license. God, he needed to stop thinking like an agent. "I'm fine, kid. It's nothing."

----------------------- ----------------------- Jeremy had seen a lot in this town in the past year or so. Things weren’t always easy but he got by okay. Everyone wondered what Jeremy was still doing here, the ones who knew the town’s secret, and he wondered himself sometimes as well. He had no idea sometimes what kept him here and then he remembered Jenna, Elena, Bonnie, and Matt. Jenna and Elena was his family so he couldn’t leave them. Matt was his friends and so was Caroline and sometimes Tyler. Stefan was slowly becoming a friend, well he think he was though he doesn’t like vampires too much. Damon was obnoxious so he didn’t count him as a friend. Alaric was a friend and a father figure to him and then there was Bonnie. He was slowly starting to have feelings for Bonnie and he didn’t know if he could leave.
He wanted to keep them all safe. He couldn’t do that if he was gone though. No Jeremy couldn’t leave town. Not now, not when everything was getting crazy around here. They would need everyone who knew to keep the town safe from the actual monsters. He had no idea where Katherine was and if she would be coming back around. He didn’t want her hurting anyone. She could pretend she was Elena, get close to someone here, and hurt them or worse kill them. He couldn’t let that happen and he was pretty good at telling Elena from Katherine though Bonnie was better at it than him. He didn’t know if it was because she was a witch or what. He just knew he had to get better at telling them apart.
He had asked the guy that he had been serving practically all night if he was okay. He sure didn’t look okay but he said he was. He had the look that Elena or one of his friends that knew about the supernatural had when they knew something bad was coming or about to happen. He had seen that look too many times on his friend’s faces these days. He had to find out what was up with this guy. Maybe he knew of the supernatural as well and knew of something that was coming or whatever. All Jeremy knew was that he had to figure it out soon. He sighed and told the guy it doesn’t look like you’re okay. Looks like something bad has happened or something bad that might happened and you know you can’t stop it. Elena had always told Jeremy that he was too curious for his own good but he didn’t care. He liked helping people. That was why he was still in town so he could help the people in this town.
