likes: 1. Elena: she's the first girl he's liked in 145 years, 2. Classic literature: he was around when most of it came out, so he has a fondness for it, though he also enjoys a good Grisham. 3. School: call him crazy, but he actually likes learning, though he's learned a lot of the same stuff over again. 4. Having fun: despite what people think, he does know how to have a good time. 5. 80s music: he has a certain fondness for music from the era, especially Bon Jovi. 6. Football: Damon taught him the sport and it became one of hs favorites, which is partly why he let Elena talk him into joining the team.
dislikes: 1. Damon: he's brought nothing but misery to his life ever since they've become vampires, so of course he doesn't like him. 2. Hunters: he likes to live in peace, and he doesn't like it when people try to kill him. 3. Liars/being lied to: except when he's trying to keep his true nature a secret, Stefan has always been honest and expects the same from others. 4. Vervain: it can hurt and weaken him so he tries to stay far away from it unless absolutely necessary. 5. Dancing: it's not that he can't dance---he actually does it very well---it's just not his favorite thing in the world. 6. Wooden bullets: Like Vervain, they can hurt him and he prefers to stay far away from them.
strengths: 1 Vampire: even though they're weaker than most, Stefan has all of the same abilities that other vampires have, which gives him an edge over humans. 2. stubborn/loyal: when he sets his mind on something, he can be like a dog with a bone and if you're family or a friend, he'll do anything to help you. 3. Charismatic: even without compulsion, Stefan has a way of charming people which has helped him to get something he wants in the past, though he doesn't always do this knowingly. 4. His humanity: this helps him blend into society, relating to people, and knowing when to push things or back off. 5. Knowledgeable: because he's been around for over a century, Stefan knows a lot about many things.
weaknesses: 1. Vervain: it burns him and if ingested can weaken him. 2. Not strong by vampire standards: Stefan doesn't drink human blood, which means his powers are significantly weaker than other vampires and it actually hurts when he gets hit. 3. Elena/Damon: he cares for her deeply and will do anything to make sure she's safe no matter what the cost to himself. Despite everything, he's still his brother and will do anything to protect him. 4. The bloodlust: he has a hard time controlling himself on human blood, which is why he sticks to animal blood, but the craving's always there. 5. Can be too compassionate: this is one of the traits that got magnified and his compassion has clouded his judgment before, making it somewhat easy for someone to manipulate this emotion.

As a human, Stefan was pretty out-going, always having a smile for everyone, playing the role of a dutiful son to a "T". But at the same time, he could be selfish, wanting things his own way, not caring who he hurt, which would be magnified after he was turned.
As a vampire, there came a new side to Stefan: cold, cruel, and completely driven by his bloodlust. Without his humanity, only the worst parts of him were evident: selfish, manipulative, not caring who he hurt.
However, when he still had his humanity, Stefan chose to only show his good traits: his compassion, his capability of love, his loyalty, etc. It is when he has his humanity that he has trouble controlling his bloodlust, choosing to rely on animal blood for survival even though it leaves him considerably weaker than other vampires.

history: Stefan was born in Mystic Falls, Virginia two years after his brother, Damon. As the boys grew up, Stefan and Damon were incredibly close, spending almost all of their time together and when Stefan first started becoming interested in girls, it was Damon who taught him the proper way to treat them, such as holding doors open for them and Stefan took all of these lessons to heart, making sure he never treated women with anything less than respect.
When Stefan was seventeen, Damon would join the Confederacy, leaving the younger brother alone with their father, something that that scared him greatly. For, as close as the brothers were, there was one thing that Damon didn't know: Giuseppe had been abusing Stefan from the time he had turned thirteen. As luck would have it, Stefan wouldn't be alone with his father for long as his father would take in a young woman named Katherine Pierce who had tragically lost her family in a fire before moving to Mystic Falls. Stefan would then find himself in competition for Katherine's affections when Damon came home on leave from the Confederacy, and would also discover Katherine's secret: she was a vampire.
It wouldn't be long before Stefan and Damon would discover that Katherine had people looking to destroy her because she was a vampire and Stefan went to Giuseppe to plead her case, resulting in him being slipped Vervain and Katherine being captured. Heartsick, Stefan teamed up with Damon to rescue, but ended up being shot and killed. However, having been compelled to feed from Katherine, Stefan came back and learned that he was in transition. He was determined to die and went to say goodbye to his father, but an altercation ensued and Giuseppe was killed and Stefan couldn't resist the bloodlust and he fed, completing the transition, and then forced Damon into transitioning.
After turning, Stefan was so consumed with guilt over his actions and angry about Katherine's death that he shut everything off and went on a killing spree, targeting the Founding Families and killing them off, causing a fight between him and Damon. It was shortly after this that he would meet Alexia Branson who worked with him to turn his emotions back on, though it took some time before he was willing to feel anything again and during the time that Alexia was helping him, Damon would leave, not wanting to be around him.
It would be several years before Stefan and Damon would see each other again. Stefan was now on animal blood and trying to atone for what he had done. Eager to make amends with Damon, he accepted his brother's offer of drinks, but lost control while feeding and once more shut everything off, going on a killing spree which lasted well into the twenties, though he blocked a lot of it out. Shortly after this, he met up with Alexia again who once more helped him to return to who he really was.
After this, Stefan and Alexia would spend a vast amount of time together, working on him controlling the bloodlust until they were sure that he was ready to be around people again. He would later return to Mystic Falls just in time to save a girl---Elena Gilbert---from drowning. Though at first he was only drawn in because of her resemblance to Katherine, Stefan would decide to get to know her and found her to be selfess, warm, and caring. But still, he was confused as to how she could look like his sire when she was of the Gilbert line and he would eventually learn that she was actually of Katherine's line and that she was adopted. He's not sure what all this means but has determined to figure it out.

Stefan's eyes narrowed as he moved through the forest, tracking his prey. He could hear it walking silently, trying to keep itself hidden and he let his lips curve into a smile. There's no escaping me. I'm far too good a hunter, he thought to himself. And it was true. He had been hunting for over a century. This was child's play for him. And his prey wasn't even aware that it was being hunted. As he continued to follow his quarry, Stefan could feel himself becoming excited. He loved the hunt. He always had. It was why he had taken to becoming a vampire so strongly. He was pretty good at stalking things and taking them down. And he was about to prove it.
Stefan deliberately stepped on a twig. Instantly, the buck he had been stalking lifted its head up and took off in a run. However, Stefan was much too fast for the animal and he took it down hard. Then he pinned it to the ground and dug his fangs into the animal's throat, letting the blood travel down his throat. Man, this stuff is disgusting, he thought to himself. He hated animal blood with a passion, but it was better than losing control on human blood. He knew how he could be when he got even a drop of human blood. It was why he had to stick to animal blood, no matter how disgusting he thought it was. And it was disgusting. Did Damon really believe that he enjoyed the taste? He didn't. But it was better than him losing control and killing everyone in sight.
When he had finally had his fill, Stefan released the deer and then took off. It wasn't really enough to satisfy him. Heck, it was animal blood. That hardly ever tasted good, but he was never going back to the monster that he had been. He knew that Damon thought he was just being self-righteous, but had he ever even tried to choke this stuff down? Sure it was disgusting, but he'd appreciate it if his brother wouldn't judge him for it without even giving it a shot. Well, I've fed and I don't have any plans with Elena, he thought to himself. Heck, he might as well as enjoy the night. He looked down. Maybe he better change first. He looked like Jack the Ripper or something. With that, he quickly headed home, eager to get out of his bloody clothes.
