This is a TV Pilot Proposal for a contest I am entering this summer. It's not complete, the only thing I have left to write is the rest of the summary. But if you guys could read through this and ask any questions, so I can fill any holes, please do. Thanks!
Industry Insider TV Pilot Proposal
1-SERIES LOGLINE
In a world where you get a second chance with the one that got away, Brylee Parker is unexpectedly thrown back into a life she almost forgot just weeks away from moving across country to fulfill her dreams, forcing everyone to reevaluate their way of life.
2- WRITE BRIEF DESCRIPTIONS FOR EACH OF YOUR MAIN CHARACTERS
Brylee Parker – Brylee drives every action. She is a successful writer, just hitting it big with an upcoming deal with a TV Network that will turn her book series into a weekly teen drama. She is finally getting everything she’s worked for, but can’t help the nagging feeling that she’s left behind her love life.
Tripp Holden – Brylee’s ex-fiancé. Tripp works as an RN in the same hospital his best friend, Xavier Owens, works. He is the reason Brylee left town so quickly six years ago, but no one knows the truth about that night.
Xavier Owens – Working on his residency to become a surgeon, Xavier is highly driven. After an injury cost him his football career, he is determined not to let anything stand in his way this time. Xavier speaks his mind and prides himself in the fact that he is usually right.
Grace Winters – Brylee’s sister, separated at a young age by adoption. A surprising twist of fate (Grace’s fiancé, Kason Laine) brought them together shortly after Brylee moved to New York.
Kason Laine – The magic link between Brylee and Grace. Brylee was Kasons first client when he started up his own literary agency. Kason was already dating Grace and, seeing the similarities, introduced them. He never could have guessed the domino effect it would cause.
Madison Young – Interning at the same hospital that her friends, Tripp and Xavier work at, she works almost directly under her father. She would much rather be in the fashion industry than following in daddy’s footsteps, but family pressure is keeping those dreams under wraps. She is slowly falling for Xavier, but between his career ambitions and her dad being his boss, she does not see it going anywhere.
Victoria Holden – Tripp’s little sister. They are almost a decade apart in age but are very close. Victoria is always putting others before herself, which puts her at a huge risk. She suffers from depression and has already been hospitalized for self-harm and an attempted suicide, but shoves it under the rug so Tripp and Xavier do not worry too much. She puts on a good act, but it won’t last forever.
Ryan Upton – A fresh director that recently started working for the network that is signing Brylee, Ryan is cocky and ambitious. He met Brylee at her internship in New York and has kept in touch ever since. They have become very close but Ryan has never acted on his true feelings.
3. USE THE CHARACTER MAP TO WRITE BRIEF DESCRIPTIONS DETAILING HOW EACH CHARACTER FEELS ABOUT THE OTHER CHARACTERS
4. WRITE A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PLOTS IN THE PILOT EPISODE
A PLOT:
After Brylee is severely injured in a car accident, she is brought to a hospital where the two most important people in her life are currently working. She has not seen them in six years and this reunion brings back a flood of old feelings in a time where Brylee cannot afford to get sentimental.
B PLOT:
Grace and Tripp reconnect, having met five years ago at a suicide prevention conference, and realize they have more in common than just a passion to help people. Tripp has had a direct line to Brylee almost the entire time.
C PLOT:
The truth comes out about why Brylee left so suddenly for New York, something that has been kept between Brylee and Tripp for six years. Tripp chances losing everything by doing this, but he knows it is also the only way to get her back.
D PLOT:
Xavier has to decide what to do with the backlash of Brylee’s presence. It causes him to rethink his decisions and sacrifices.
5. WRITE A SUMMARY (500 WORDS OR LESS) OF EACH ACT IN THE PILOT
ACT I:
A girl is driving down a deserted road, talking to a man on speakerphone. They're discussing flight arrangements. She hangs up and stops at a red light. When it turns green, she hits the gas and is immediately struck by another car.
A stretcher is rushed into an ER; a man in scrubs is waiting. Xavier Owens asks for details, and when given the name Brylee Parker, he falters. He takes her in to the OR. Another man enters through the ER waiting room and looks around, surprised to see a familiar face, Grace Winters. The man is Tripp Holden, a RN who works on the 3rd floor. Grace's sister is here. We hear the name again, Brylee Parker. Tripp reacts similarly to Xavier.
Tripp and Xavier discuss Brylee's condition and we can tell that not all the details are fitting into place. Apparently Brylee abruptly left some time ago and this is the first time they are seeing her. Tripp returns to Grace who is now in a hospital room with her still unconscious sister. They are allowed to talk calmly now, having put a few of the pieces together. They agree that Grace will stay with Tripp and Xavier until she returns to New York, that Xavier will take her home when his shift ends soon. Tripp is left alone in the room with Brylee and the pain he is feeling is obvious.
The next morning, an intern working under Tripp checks on him at the desk. We can tell they are close and she is concerned. He tells her it's complicated, explains that no one but him and her know the details and he was counting on never having to rehash them to anyone. Her being back changes everything. Xavier interrupts with news, Brylee is awake.
ACT II:
Xavier notices the topic before he entered was a heavy one. He questions Tripp as they walk upstairs. Tripp is distressed, but has no other choice.
In flashback:
Brylee is cooking dinner at the stove, mixing things into a casserole dish. Tripp enters and Brylee tells him she has news. She got an internship in New York City. She would be leaving in a month. Tripp is shocked and lashes out. He starts to put her down and we see by her reaction that this is surprising. She argues back, though, defiant. He snaps and pushes her into a wall, hard.
Present Day:
Xavier is biting back words; they are almost to Brylee's room. He tells Tripp he needs to fix this and walks ahead of him into her hospital room. Grace is sitting with her sister who is clearly shocked to see the two men from her past. Xavier tells Brylee that he knows, who immediately understands without explanation. Grace, however, is confused. Xavier dismisses Tripp, suggesting that he go talk to Grace somewhere else. Tripp agrees, waiting for the bomb to go off. He knows Xavier is controlling himself.
Brylee is still confused on what got her here in the first place. Xavier explains that she was injured badly, that they almost lost her. He asks her why she never told him anything, why she allowed him to hate her. She didn't want to risk the friendship the boys had. They needed each other. She knew she'd be ok on her own.
6. WRITE A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ARC WITHIN THE PILOT EPISODE
Tripp goes from having his life completely together to absolutely nothing being certain.
Xavier goes from being strictly career driven to wondering if that is what is important in the end.
Brylee goes from being certain she has the life she has wanted all along only to realize there is something missing.
6a. THE ARC WITHIN THE FIRST SEASON
Brylee struggles with what being in the industry means.
Tripp moves forward with Brylee with the agreement that her career takes precedence.
Xavier realizes his career is not worth the girl of his dreams.
Victoria struggles with her depression and enters back into rehab.
6b. THE ARC WITHIN THE WHOLE SERIES
Brylee will eventually realize that your past does not define who you are and get back together with Tripp.
Xavier will take a leap of faith and, instead of settling for a career that will get him a steady paycheck, follow his dreams.
Madison will support Xavier’s decision and follow suit, getting a job with Grace to work on the set of couture fashion photography.
Kason and Grace will realize they can move their careers anywhere and move to southern California to be closer to Brylee.
Victoria will successfully be able to deal with her depression/SI tendencies and finds herself loving the Hollywood atmosphere.
7. DESCRIBE HOW THIS SHOW WILL GENERATE A HUNDRED EPIDODES OR MORE
The show starts out with a group of young adults that have no clue what they are doing. They need to adjust to some very big changes not just with what is surrounding them, but with the way they view the world. The drama that will evolve with new places, new careers, love triangles and complicated pasts will generate many seasons.
